Job title: Senior Research Scientist, Molecular Engineering
I’m a graduate from the University of Pavia (Italy) and with a PhD in Structural and Computational Biology from University of Heidelberg-Germany and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), where I spent four fantastic years working on neurodegenerative disease NF1. I then moved to Vancouver and joined the lab of Dr.Strynadka at UBC, renowned for its expertise in bacterial secretion systems. After my postdoc I experienced ‘frigid but stunning’ Saskatchewan, working as scientist at the Canadian Light Source’s Crystallography Beamlines. Craving for the West Coast, I then joined Zymeworks, a local Vancouver biotech focusing on computational protein engineering, helping it grow from 5 to 150 employees, and into a major player in our field. Having a thirst to experience the big pharma world, I then moved to Amgen, where I have been leading the Ab engineering team in Discovery Research for more than two years. In parallel with my work at Amgen I also champion several collaborations, including one with the ETH in Zurich Switzerland, focused on large network analysis to link deep sequencing information to structural features.
